April 15 Meeting Notes

Recognition:

It is volunteer week and we want to take a moment to reflect on all of our volunteer efforts and how each of our clubs make a difference every day!

–          1 example from Kiwanis: a member has collected books and videos to give to the Arlington Pediatric Center and over 32,000 items have been donated!

Treasurer Report – Dues letters have gone out and payment has been coming in.

Civitans:

Don’t forget that you can raise money for your clubs by helping at the Flea Markets!

The first Saturday of every month from approximately 5:00am – 4:00pm.

Help is also needed the Friday before from 4:00 – 8:00pm.

Volunteers are paid $10.00 per hour.  Contact Chris Wahl ahead of time, so she’ll know what to expect.

May 10th, Civitans will honor Outstanding Senior HS Students at Tyson’s Clydes.  They’ll receive the Good Citizenship Medallion.  Civitans will also be giving out their annual scholarships.

Kiwanis:

They are holding a new fundraiser called the Family Fair on May 7th at Knights of Columbus.  They’ll have pancakes, cars, magic, entertainment and a raffle.

June 25-26 is the Kiwanis Annual Antique Show at Thomas Jefferson.

Zonta:

The Wine Seminar in April was a wonderful success, the best they’ve had to date.

They’ll be giving out a scholarship to a Marymount Student this month.

Rotary:

The Arlington Rotary Education Foundation will be giving their annual scholarship and it will be announced in June.  There is also an Ambassadorial Scholarship available to college graduate students that will be announce in June.  That is an international opportunity.

June 11-12 Join us for a book sale at Culpepper Gardens.  Proceeds from the book sale will go to assist residents with their incidental costs.  Clubs that are interested could participate by holding a bake sale, helping staff the book sale, or just coming by to buy books!  ISCC participation would be very welcome.

Rotary on Tap will be on May 12th at the Crystal City Sports Pub.  We hold these events with other Rotary Clubs in Arlington as fellowship event as well as an opportunity to attract new members.
